The start of the Pioneers

Thanks to KR Foundation and the Open Society Initiative for Europe, the municipalities in Transition project is able to continue their work exploring how the civil society and the local governments can better work together.

After an intense and juicy first phase with six pilots, representing diverse geographies of the planet – Brazil, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Portugal – the kick-off of the second phase comes alive with Vila Mariana from São Paulo, Brazil and Valsamoggia from Italy commiting to becoming our first pioneers.

Both these communities are already familiar with the municipalities in transition system as they have been part of our first phase as pilots.

In Vila Mariana, the main actions achieved over a period of one year have been the development and launch of the Pilot Tree Plantation Project – PPAC and the creation of a Sustainability Working Group (mapping initiatives committed to sustainability in the territory). You can read more about it here.

In the case of Valsamoggia in Italy the main actions were the creation of ValsaTV a local media channel and a process to design the “Administrators Profiles” using a pattern from the S3 methodology. Find out more about it here.
